A 22-year-old Orange County woman says she’s telling her story in hopes it will help her heal and support other victims of sexual assault.
The 31st. In March, I was sexually assaulted by nurse Paul Miller at Mission Hospital, she says.
According to Cooksey and his attorney Sean Steele, Cooksey was in the hospital after a car accident when Miller allegedly took advantage of his vulnerability and position as a nurse.
Under the supervision of nurse Paul Miller, they took her to a small dark room with a door, injected her with morphine and placed a catheter, Steele said. She was sedated before she was sexually assaulted.
According to Steele, Cooksey received three morphine injections, after which she was semi-conscious, according to hospital records. He said Cooksey was able to send a message to his mother, which arrived within 10 minutes.
The women alerted the Orange County Sheriff’s Department within 24 hours and the hospital was notified the next day.

Since then, two other women have said Miller also sexually abused them – a 68-year-old woman in April and a 56-year-old woman in June.
We suspect that staff members, such as nurses and doctors, were aware of his propensity to harm patients, Steele said.
The hospital issued a statement that read:
As soon as the hospital management received the first complaint from the patient, the hospital acted quickly and immediately put the nurse on leave pending a full investigation.
Miller was born on the 30th. June arrested and released on bail the same day. He is facing a number of criminal charges in connection with the alleged attacks, and now a civil suit has been filed on Cooksey’s behalf. This lawsuit also names Providence Mission Hospital of Mission Viejo as a defendant.
If Paul Miller has attacked you, I invite you to have the courage to stand beside me and together we will hold him accountable for what he has done and what this hospital has allowed him to do to all of us, Cooksey said.
Miller previously worked at El Centro Regional Medical Center from January 2016 to January 2017 and at Sharp Hospital – Chula Vista from December 2014 to May 2015.
