The exhibit, titled “Artists Respond: Climate Change and the Visual Arts”, will display works by some of the world’s most prominent artists, who will respond to the rising threat of climate change.

The Smithsonian Institution reports on a contemporary art exhibit at the National Museum of Natural History. The exhibition, titled Unsettled Nature, shows a nature suffering from human behavior and asks the question: What is natural when the world is so influenced by man?
Scott Wing, curator of the National Museum of Natural History, teamed up with Joanna Marsh, curator of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, this week to create an exhibit that takes a fresh look at climate change.
Wing, who studies fossils to learn more about Earth’s past climate, was quoted in a museum press release as saying that scientists need to find ways to communicate with the public: We thought that art and science together could be a more powerful way to influence both people’s emotions and intelligence.
Hard truths
The exhibition, titled Unsettled Nature, aims to remind people that they themselves are an unsettled nature. Wing and Marsh have selected artists who challenge public consciousness in original ways. Bethany Taylor’s woven tapestry depicting a burning Amazon forest hanging next to a fire extinguisher illustrates this idea. Wait, there’s more.
Around her tapestry she has attached animal forms that are connected with threads. Pull a rope and they all unravel, Taylor said.

Wellcome’s photo contest, now in its third year, focuses on three areas of global health: mental health, global warming and infectious diseases.

One of the shortlisted photographers was Krisztian Bucci from Germany for his photo titled Elimination of Fossil Fuels. It looks like before-and-after shots – a green scene with an approaching fire in the distance.
The faster the world can reduce greenhouse gas emissions, Bouchey said in his speech, the better we can prevent the health risks of global warming. He should be proud of his government.
