Gaming phone market update: Q2 2022 predictions

For several years, it seemed as though the only developments we were ever going to see with smart phones was making them a little bigger and a little thinner. Slowly, companies began to innovate a bit more. First with minor changes, such as screens that went all the way to the edge of the phone. More recently, features such as dual screens have begun to appear on the market and have shaken things up a bit.

Gaming phones are at the forefront of many of the most innovative and creative developments in the mobile phone industry. In this article, we’ll quickly look at some of the reasons for their rising popularity and then highlight two of the new releases that have caught our eye. Check out mobile prices here.

Rising popularity

The fact that mobile gaming has so many different forms is another reason for this increased popularity. Grandmas playing word puzzle games might not need a gaming phone with the highest quality graphics, but many other casual gamers might consider it a worthwhile investment.

People who play at online casinos are one of those groups. So many slots machine games have fantastic graphics, and it makes sense that players would like to be able to fully enjoy them. Now that so many online casinos have their own apps, playing at the best online roulette sites is just as easy to do on a mobile phone too.

One of the major reasons that gaming phones are becoming more popular is that they have higher specs than the average phone. Even if you aren’t playing a ton of games, having a phone with the best chipsets and between 8GB-18GB of RAM makes everything else you do on a mobile phone work better as well.

It might not be as important a factor as the ones mentioned above, but for some people it is the deciding factor on what kind of phone to buy: most gaming phones still have headphone jacks. For the audiophiles or even just the folks who simply hate change, this is a huge deal.

New Releases

Asus ROG Phone 5

The Asus ROG Phone 5 is the ultimate gaming phone on the market. Not only does it have Snapdragon 888 and up to 16GB of RAM, it also has two batteries and one of the best screens on the market. It even has haptic triggers built in, a truly cutting-edge feature.

The only real con is that it does get very hot, very quickly. The design also makes it obvious that it is a gaming phone, so if you’re looking for something a bit more discrete, you may need to look elsewhere.

Black Shark 4 Pro

If you want high-end features without a high-end price tag, the Black Shark 4 Pro is the phone for you. Announced in 2021 but not released until this year, this phone was worth waiting for. It also has Snapdragon 888 and is available with either 8GB or 12GB of RAM. It even has magnetic triggers that pop up from the body of the phone for a classic gaming experience.

This phone is one that will require you to carry around your charger or invest in a power bank. The battery life isn’t as great as you’d hope it would be from a gaming phone but considering the reasonable price tag it isn’t a serious issue.

Of course there will always be those dedicated gamers who feel like playing on anything other than a custom-built laptop with all of the best specs isn’t worth their time. For the rest of us though, gaming phones provide a great way to get our gaming fix on the go.
