Never underestimate the power of a wide open door beckoning you to enter. Sometimes when we embrace an excellent opportunity, we’re given more than we thought we would ever receive. Last year a woman in our community asked Janelle Brown to consider going to the We3 Women’s Conference. She accepted though she was unsure of what would await her. At the conference, a woman felt compelled to tell Janelle that she saw her having some speaking engagements in the future. Now, may I present to you, the keynote speaker of this year’s We3 Women’s Conference, Janelle Brown.
Janelle Brown is the founder of Life Designer University, which is an online coaching and educational platform that offers higher education for purpose-driven living. Janelle said, “I coach, educate, equip and unleash women to walk in the fullness of their God-given purpose.” Time management, personal development and how to create life goals are skills which are learned through her online university. She studied psychology in college and uses that knowledge to help women as well. Janelle noticed that there was a need for practical higher education that is paired with the spiritual and emotional/mental aspects of life.
Janelle was burdened for women at a young age. When she was in the sixth grade, she was asked what she wanted to be when she grew up. She responded and said she wanted to do something with fashion, women, and beauty. In high school, she struggled with low self-esteem and body image issues. One night, she was reading Psalm 139, and verse 14 seemed to leap off the page. It says, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” She felt God speak to her at that moment and say, “When you talk negatively about yourself, you are bashing My creation.” This revelation brought about lots of positive life changes, including weight loss. It happened because she decided to love herself and see herself the way God sees her. She wasn’t striving to lose weight on a diet plan, but she was treating her body with the tender care that it deserved.
She had the opportunity during her senior year of high school to share her testimony, and afterward, she received messages from ladies who were inspired by her story. At that point, she knew she wanted to empower and motivate women. She thought she would pursue fashion and did for a while with her blog. However, her blog began to transform from a focus on fashion to personal development.
When she was fasting and praying about her purpose, she felt the need to search online for the term, “life coach.” What she found was that it encompassed all of her natural giftings. At that moment, she saw a movie reel in her mind of all her gifts, talents, passions, education, and even her upbringing and how it was all meant to get her to that purpose. She said, “God really does bring things to a full circle.” Many different threads are woven together to form this big, beautiful tapestry. The threads are the common themes throughout our lives. Janelle said, “I truly believe that our purpose is not out there to be discovered, but it’s meant to be uncovered because we have everything that God has for us inside us and it’s just a matter of putting together the pieces.”
About two weeks after she began pursuing a career in being a life coach, she received a phone call from a lady who knew her from church long ago, and she asked her if she offered one on one coaching. This woman knew nothing about her choice to become a life coach, and yet she was asking Janelle for her services already. She felt like this was confirmation for what she had chosen to do.
You see, Janelle went through her own Life Designer University curriculum before it existed and because of that, her passion is to do the same for other women. “I want women to take their purpose, vision, and goals from ideas to execution so they can design a life that they love or business that they choose,” she said.
