The evening takes a sudden turn when revelations about their relationship surface and test the strength of their love. There are already whispers of an Oscar nomination for Zendaya, thanks to her emotional performance in the film.
RELATIONS: Netflix to release Zendaya & John David Washington’s Malcolm and Marie quarantine film for $30 million.
When asked if she wanted to play the role of Malcolm & Marie, Zendaya Coleman revealed that she wanted to get back to work. It’s kind of born in the quarantine conversations that Sam [Levinson] and I had because we wanted to create something safe, she said in a recent interview. I really wanted to be creative and I hadn’t worked in a long time, at least until this year. The last movie I played in was Euphoria, and I didn’t really play for a year. I really missed what I liked. Levinson and Zendaya were also able to work on two special episodes of Euphoria during the pandemic, which are currently streaming on HBO Max.
Zendaya then shared that Sam Levinson had more than a few ideas on how to safely shoot Malcolm & Marie. One such idea was to shoot the film in Zendaya’s house. We could shoot up my house and see if we can find anything. But it became a little more than that…. He called me one day with this beautiful idea of these two people in a house, a relationship play…. like a play. Everything went smoothly and they were able to shoot the film in secret with little or no interaction from the outside world.
Malcolm & Marie will be available from 5pm. February in streaming exclusively on Netflix. It is written and directed by Sam Levinson and produced by Kevin Turen, Ashley Levinson, Levinson, Zendaya and John David Washington. The film is produced by Will Greenfield, Aaron L. Gilbert, Yariv Milchan, Michael Schaefer and Scott Mescudi, aka Kid Cudi. You can watch the first Malcolm & Marie trailer above, thanks to the official Netflix YouTube channel.
