Val Kilmer finds it hard ‘to talk and be understood’ as he opens up on throat cancer recovery in documentary

Val Kilmer has been around a long time and this week he has been in the news. This is a good thing as it means he is on the mend. Kilmer is a champion for cancer research and was diagnosed with throat cancer last summer. After surgery and radiation treatment, he started to blog about his experiences.

Val Kilmer was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014, and lost his voice for several months. Now, he’s back in the public eye, but he’s not talking about his cancer. Kilmer stars in a documentary about the recovery process, entitled “Val Kilmer: Diagnosis: Cancer”, which will premiere on Saturday, November 17 at the IFC Center in New York City, and on Saturday, November 24 at the South Shore Cultural Center in Chicago.

Val Kilmer said he had trouble speaking and making himself understood after a tracheotomy – an incision in the throat, often to insert a tube – during his recovery from throat cancer.

Fans praised the Batman star when the trailer for his documentary Val was released on Amazon Prime this week, highlighting the star’s health.

The 61-year-old actor, who was diagnosed in 2015 but didn’t learn of his health problems until two years later after actor Michael Douglas reported him, is determined to tell his story more than ever, even if it’s not easy to share these days.

In a teaser for the upcoming documentary, he said: I was recently diagnosed with throat cancer.

I’m still recovering and I have trouble speaking and making myself understood. But I want to tell my story more than ever.

In the video, the Top Gun star can be seen using a voice-activated device to help him speak.

He added: I’ve spent decades trying to find my voice through the characters. I tried to see the world as a whole with life.

Val, who is a Christian Scientist, also reflects on his life in the short video and talks to the camera: I acted bad. I acted brave.’ -…. strange for some people.

The trailer begins with footage of the actor as a young man and clips from his films, after which Val explains that he has collected thousands of hours of footage over the years.

He said: My name is Val Kilmer. I’m an actor. I’ve lived a magical life and recorded some of it. I was the first one with a video camera.

Fans responded to the trailer, sharing their praise and support for Val, with a tweet: An absolutely brilliant acting talent. Val Kilmer has made several classic films in his career. It breaks my heart to see him suffer. A documentary that everyone should see. That’s very good.

Thank you for sharing your precious life with us. I’m very excited and looking forward to meeting them, said another fan. I pray that you will always be healthy and happy.

Val has previously said he only agreed to cancer treatment for his children Mercedes and Jack, whom he is raising with ex-wife Joanne Walley.

He said: I had a suspected case of throat cancer. In Christian Science] the idea is that instead of saying I have it or own it, there is an explanation, an assumption, that it is a fact.

I didn’t want to experience her fear, it was very strong. I had to go, and I didn’t want to be without her.

His daughter Mercedes, who he shares with ex-wife Joanne Walley, recalls the devastating moment Val was first diagnosed with stage four cancer after he collapsed in his Los Angeles home in 2015 when the tumor burst.

Until now, the diagnosis had not been made official and Mercedes – who plays alongside Val in Paydirt – said she thought her father did not have long to live after the diagnosis as the cancer was at an advanced stage.

Speaking to the Mirror, she said: The doctor said he had stage four cancer, he had never been officially diagnosed. It was devastating.

I thought it was because it was such a neglected condition, I didn’t think it would live long.

She told how her father was determined to beat cancer on his own, adding: People wanted him to get tested, but he believed in his body’s ability to fight the disease.

It was obvious he was sick, but he didn’t want to go to the doctor, which I respect, he wanted to do it his way.

Val’s film is scheduled for release on the 6th. August in the cinema.
