Warner Bros. did not inform the directors and creative partners of his plans for HBO Max 2021 for fear of leaks. The entertainment industry was shocked to learn that Warner Bros. will release his 2021 films at the same time in the cinema and on HBO Max. Directors and studios have learned that the new hybrid release schedule with the rest of the world is not suitable for some people, including Tenet director Christopher Nolan and Dune director Denis Villeneuve.

According to a new report on the Warner Bros. situation, the secrecy was deliberate. Ann Sarnoff, President and CEO of WarnerMedia, recently commented on this decision. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sarnoff says the studio announced the 2021 strategy before talking to its partners because they feared the news would come out. I wish we had more time to talk to our partners and our talents, she says. We are very aware that we are paying a fair price for a 31-day run on HBO Max, and we think they will be happy to see all the efforts we are making to get these films off to a good start. Christopher Nolan, who has a long relationship with Warner Bros., was one of the first to speak publicly about the deal.

POWERFUL : WarnerMedia risks losing $1.2 billion at the box office by broadcasting films on HBO Max.

The public health crisis has largely wiped out the experience of maneuverability in the near future. The theatres are forced to close, and usually no new films are released. In a recent interview Christopher Nolan spoke frankly about the new hybrid model at Warner Bros. That’s what the French call the moral of droids. Do they necessarily own [the film] because they paid for it or because they financed it? And it’s not just a purely legal issue, it’s also an ethical one, Nolan says. It is a matter of partnership and cooperation. You haven’t talked to these filmmakers. They didn’t consult them about what they were going to do for work. And I thought somebody should have pointed out that this is not the right way to treat these filmmakers. Since Nolan spoke, several other directors have come forward to share their side of the story.

Like all the other directors who worked with Warner Bros., Duin director Denis Villeneuve got to know the new system when the news was announced. There is absolutely no love for the cinema or the audience here, Mr. Villeneuve said in a statement. It is about the survival of the telecommunications mammoth, which currently has an astronomical debt of more than 150 billion dollars. The director also points out that Dune is about cinema and audience, while AT&T is about survival on Wall Street. When the launch of HBO Max failed, AT&T decided to sacrifice all its 2021 airtime to Warner Bros. in a desperate attempt to attract the public’s attention. Thanks to this announcement, HBO Max is making headlines. The studio will test the new model at Christmas, when Wonder Woman 1984 is released in selected theatres and on HBO Max.

Legendary, the one with Warner Bros. on Dune and Godzilla vs. Kong worked together, allegedly preparing a process for a new release schedule. Legend has it that the situation could ultimately damage the long-term viability of the franchise, as Denis Villeneuve also pointed out during the discussion on the second part of Dune. The Hollywood Reporter was the first to report that Warner Bros. was watching for leaks when it announced its release program for 2021.
