Path of the Samurai is one of the lesser known PS2 exclusive games (photo: Acquire).
Following the success of Ghost of Tsushima, readers are invited to explore the reboot of the PlayStation 2 game Path of the Samurai.
One of the best action-adventure games ever released on PlayStation is without a doubt Samurai’s Way. The series from Japanese developer Acquire masterfully combines role-playing, combat, action-adventure and multiple storylines into one amazing and incredibly well-crafted experience.
I got this game as a Christmas present and at first I wasn’t sure what to make of it and whether I would be disappointed. To my surprise, I learned never to judge a game by its cover. Way Of The Samurai also shows exactly what this game has to offer the player.
The game offers different outcomes depending on your choices, and also rewards you with different unlockables for completing each scenario. It also has great graphics for its time and an incredible soundtrack, as well as the ability to use and upgrade different weapons and different boss fights.
The first game deserves to be included in a future PlayStation 2 Classic console, as it would be a shame to exclude such a great game. Although the game dates back to the PlayStation 2 generation, it holds up very well, even for an old game of today.
There have been other games in the series, but none of them could do what the first one did, for example the conversation system was miles ahead of the other games; also the characters are likable, even if you don’t like them at first.
The recent spate of video game reboots shows that there’s a demand for classic games to make a comeback, and here’s a game that really deserves a reboot, but doesn’t have one. The reboot could include new characters to play, as well as new clan members, and shows the changes made to the Rokkotsu Pass.
In addition, the multiplayer mode has been greatly improved over the original and includes several online game modes such as team battles and various target modes. You can also add a cooperative story mode where players can work as a team, and allow for a higher difficulty level that makes players want to replay the game to unlock more weapons, money, etc.
Originally allowing you to play as other characters in the story, this was added to the multiplayer modes from each character’s perspective to give the game an extra layer of replayability.
If you’ve never played Way Of The Samurai or heard of it, you should definitely give it a try. You won’t be disappointed and you’ll understand exactly why this is one of the best PlayStation 2 games ever and why it really deserves a reboot.
For me, this game will forever be one of the best PlayStation 2 games I’ve ever played and it’s a game I definitely want to see on the PlayStation 2 Classic system so that others who may have missed out on this great game can enjoy it.
