Virgin Dee
Prior to the regular season finale, the New England Patriots have taken a step to become an experienced cornerback.
The Patriots signed Dee Virgin on Friday on the list of 53 men. The Virgin is expected to play in special teams, but it is not known if she will be on the field on Sunday.

The 27-year-old Georgian played under Bill Belichick’s disciples Bill O’Brien in Houston and Matt Patricia in Detroit. So the connection and familiarity are clear.
Most recently Virgin spent some time on the Rams coaching staff. The Patriots are pretty solid in second place at this point, although J.C. Jackson is fighting some elite receivers on the field. Virgin could, however, add a degree of urgency, or possibly replace a valuable member of an active task force unit.
Can Virgin possibly replace Matthew Slater?
No matter how big the transition year 2020 is for the organisation of the Patriots, 2021 can be just as different. In addition to the potential for higher sales in the quarterback position, the Patriots’ list may be severely hampered by defaults after this season.
The team refused to participate in the season because of concerns about VIDOC-19. Of these eight players (Matt Lacosse, Brandon Bolden, Dont’a Hightower, Marcus Cannon, Joe Vitale, Marquis Lee, Patrick Chang and Naji Toran) there is at least some concern that Cannon, Hightower and Chang will leave the game. Bolden has already declared his intention to return.
Patriot legend Matthew Slater has spoken openly about the possibility of retiring after this season, in addition to players who want to leave. Slater said that he and his wife would pray for the situation and make a decision for the future. If he decides to leave, he leaves a gaping hole in the SWAT team. Slater’s going into his ninth season this season. The Pro Bowl team has been selected, the most in history for a player who has mainly played this role.
It is unlikely that Virgin will intervene and do what Slater did more than ten years ago, but it is time for the Patriots to seriously start considering their options. Virgin can play a different role in the special teams, while another player already in the team will be promoted to replace Slater in 2021.
Many probably prefer Slater to come back, because it is clear that he can still play at a high level. He said he didn’t want to play for another team. We’ll see about that.
