The County Board of Supervisors is scheduled to vote on a mandate requiring county employees to show proof of vaccinations for Hepatitis A and B when requests for leave are made. Also, while the county already requires employees to show proof of vaccinations for measles and chicken pox, the Board is considering extending these to include Hepatitis A and B vaccines.
A Georgia county board of supervisors will vote today on whether to ask employers to legally require employees to be vaccinated before taking part in certain board programs. The board is expected to vote 3-2 in favor of the ordinance, which would require vaccinations for employees of all county programs — including parks, recreation programs, public health, and environmental programs — that “pose a direct risk to the employee’s health, safety, or welfare.” The measure would exempt individuals with medical exemption or religious beliefs.
In our county, employers are required to provide employees with proof of inoculations for Measles, Mumps, and Rubella, as well as Chicken Pox and Meningitis, and they are required to provide employees with proof of inoculations for Hepatitis A and B as of January 1st, 2018. (CBSLA) – LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – The LA County Board of Supervisors will decide next week on whether to compel all county workers to disclose their vaccination status or submit to weekly testing, as more local companies choose to demand evidence of vaccination or negative COVID-19 tests to enter their facilities.
Beginning next month, the Equinox Group, which also owns Soul Cycle, will require evidence of vaccination for members to access its gyms.

“I believe in a scenario like this, it’s just so tough to exercise with a mask, and if that’s the answer for folks, I’m alright with it,” one Equinox gym member said.
Equinox Group stated in a statement that it polled both members and staff. The findings showed that 96 percent of its members, as well as 89 percent of the company’s employees, are completely vaccinated. “While these findings are promising,” the statement continues, “leading and pushing real change is more essential than ever.”
Other companies, such as Laemmle Theaters, believe they are unable to impose a vaccination requirement on their consumers.
The theatrical company’s president, Greg Laemmle, said, “I’m not a health specialist.” “We’re glad to follow any recommendations health professionals make, but we’re a tiny firm, and attempting to figure out what the most effective method of validating vaccination status is going to take more organization than we have.”
Beds in critical care are filling up, according to Emily Morris, a certified clinical social worker at Cedars Sinai’s ICU.
“We’re stressed, strained, and people are ill without COVID, so when you add COVID sickness to the mix, we’re at maximum capacity. “We are already in the process of constructing additional places for more patients,” Morris said, “and it’s kind of frightening because we are all so afraid of going back to the point where we don’t have enough beds.”
Morris believes that receiving the vaccine may save people’s lives, whether it’s at the gym or for a dinner reservation.
“I would say over the past year and a half, I’ve probably seen hundreds of individuals die who I’ve worked with,” she said. “I believe that’s why right now is so difficult for all of us, because we didn’t have access to vaccinations for everyone during the previous wave,” she said. “But I believe this wave is a different kind of dissatisfaction since the general people understands how to defend themselves.”
Morris said, “It’s sad because there was a lot of appreciation for the risk healthcare professionals were taking at the outset of the epidemic.”

“It just seems like a smack in the face right now,” she added.
Meanwhile, LA Government Supervisor Janice Hahn will propose a resolution requiring all 100,000 county workers to be vaccinated or tested on a weekly basis.
“In addition, we will require all healthcare workers to get vaccinated. COVID-19 would be added to the list of viruses against which healthcare workers must be immunized, she said.
The public will have the opportunity to speak on the proposal at the Board of Supervisors meeting next Tuesday. The county will have 15 days to come up with a plan if the board approves the proposal.
Currently, Hahn does not envision the board requiring companies to do the same, but she hopes they will join the battle with the county.
The LA County Department of Public Health Office of Communications & Public Affairs said over email, “The County is not requiring proof of vaccination for customers to enter specific businesses at this point in time. We applaud those businesses that are assessing risks to their employees and customers and adding additional layers of protection, including requiring proof of vaccination.”
When asked whether the city intends to follow New York City’s lead and require vaccinations for indoor businesses, he said no. Mayor Eric Garcetti’s Deputy Communications Director, Alex Comisar, issued the following statement:
“On these matters, the Mayor always follows the advice of County public health experts, and no such requirement is currently proposed or planned. But, with the number of instances and hospitalizations on the rise, nothing is off the table. The Mayor strongly encourages everyone to be vaccinated, and he supports companies that take precautions to protect their employees and customers.”
