The expected highlights of the opening day, which takes place from 13:05. In the East, until about 1 a.m., there is the return of Hall of Famer Tony La Russa as manager of the Chicago White Sox, the debut of Francisco Lindor with the Mets and the start of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ title defense.

But the most interesting game of the day will likely be the Houston Astros’ home opener in Oakland, where they will play in front of a hostile crowd for the first time since their elaborate signature steal (which helped the team win the 2017 World Series) was debunked. This game between the Astros and Athletics is one of four opening day games that will air nationally on ESPN. Here’s the full-time schedule.

Whit Merrifield Kansas City Royals have 637 hits from 2017, the most of any player in the American League…Orlin Wagner/Associated Press.

Keeping track of the offseason moves of 30 teams can be a challenge. Fortunately, Tyler Kepner took the time to go through all 30 teams and highlight why they are optimistic, why they are pessimistic, and the key statistics for each team.

Did you know that the Philadelphia Phillies led in 48 of 60 games last season (even though they only won 28 games)? Would you guess that Whit Merrifield of the Kansas City Royals leads the American League in hits since 2017? Tyler did it.

Tyler also made some predictions for the postseason, and Los Angeles Dodgers fans will want to read them all the way through.
