David Rodriguez Hernandez Sentenced for his Involvement in the 2013 Shooting Death of Victor Hugo Sanchez •

SAN LUIS OBISPO – Prosecutor Dan Doe announced today, Jan. 12, that David Rodriguez Hernandez, 44, has been sentenced to state prison for his involvement in the 2013 murder of Victor Hugo Sanchez, 37.

As part of the deal, a San Luis Obispo County Superior Court judge sentenced Hernandez to 24 years and eight months in state prison for his involvement in Sanchez’s 2013 murder in Paso Robles as part of a conspiracy with several others.

The victim’s former girlfriend, Maria del Carmen Granados Fajardo, who was indicted in 2014 and sentenced to 21 years in prison for life, paid Sanchez to injure and then kill her. David Rodriguez Hernandez was convicted as one of the accused of injuring and kidnapping Sanchez.

Three other suspects are still at large.

Sanchez was elected for the first time at the 6th. In October 2012, he was attacked with a tire iron, breaking his nose and arm. Then on the 23rd. In February 2013, the hired gun returned, kidnapped Sanchez and shot him in the knee. However, the victim resisted and was shot multiple times in the parking lot of a residence in Paso Robles, resulting in his death.

The 29th. In June 2018, David Rodriguez Hernandez was arrested in Mexico and extradited to a court after being at large for more than five years. Numerous police and immigration agencies were involved in the extradition of Hernandez, who was arrested on the 30th. January 2019 was registered at the San Luis Obispo County Jail.

The 30th. In November 2020, Hernandez was convicted of conspiracy, robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and murder. Hernandez also admitted to using a firearm in the murder.

Yesterday, the 11th. In January, Chief Justice Jacqueline Duffy sentenced Hernandez to 24 years and 8 months in state prison.

This office and our local law enforcement agencies will always seek justice by locating and arresting those responsible, even if they leave our jurisdiction, said District Attorney Dan Doe. This case is an example of our commitment to holding criminals accountable, wherever they go and wherever they try to hide.

The other three are charged with Sanchez’s murder, have active warrants for murder and are considered armed and dangerous.

That includes:

  • Edgar Ontiveros (DB 03/09/1995)
  • Louis Henry Madrigal (DOB 01/19/1994)
  • Alejandro Benjamin Anguiano (SB 13.05.1994)

Prosecutors are appealing to the public to help find the fugitives.
