mollyfamwatAfter years of announcement, Cassandra Peterson’s next memoir, Elvira Yours Cruelly, will hit shelves just in time for Halloween and be released on September 21. Peterson has been talking about launching the project for some time, with the downside being that the artist has been very busy with projects in recent years, while the coronavirus pandemic has rightly brought with it a whole host of new complications. Nevertheless, last year’s worldwide quarantine has apparently allowed Peterson to spend more time on a book that will surely appeal to fans of Mistress of Darkness. The book is described as follows, “On Good Friday 1953, barely 18 months old, 25 miles from the nearest hospital in Manhattan, Kansas, Cassandra Peterson took a pot to the fire and put it in boiling water. Third-degree burns covered 35% of her body, and the prognosis was not good. But she survived. Burns and scars, the consequences stayed with her and became an obstacle she decided to overcome. The feeling of failure made her love the horror. While her sisters played with Barbie dolls, Cassandra played with Frankenstein and Dracula model kits and idolized Vincent Price.
“Due to a difficult relationship with her mother, Cassandra left home at 14 and by 17 was performing at the famous Dunes Hotel in Las Vegas. Running around with people like Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr. and Tom Jones helped her grow up quickly. Then a chance meeting with her idol Elvis Presley changed the course of her life forever and took her to Europe, where she worked in movies and traveled through Italy as a lead singer in an Italian pop group. She eventually moved to Los Angeles, where she joined the famous improv group The Groundlings and honed her acting skills alongside Phil Hartman and Paul “Pee-wee” Rubens.
