The unrealistic 2021 NBA Draft trade the Knicks should actually try to make

The Knicks are in a bad place right now, and they’ll be looking to potentially make a big move in the summer of 2021. While the team is set to have a lottery pick (as well as some “safe” first-round picks), the Knicks could focus on filling out the second half of their roster with strong talents that can benefit them in a few years.

The New York Knicks are in a tricky spot with the upcoming NBA draft, and not because of how unlikely it is that they will have a top-two pick. The Knicks have a history of trading their picks for young talent that they then mishandle, with disastrous results. The Knicks have traded their first-round picks six times in the last 12 years, including the fourth overall pick in 2017. The Knicks have traded away first-round picks in three separate drafts over the last four years. They made the first-round deal with the Celtics in the 2011 draft, sending the fourth overall pick to Boston, as well as unprotected first-round picks in 2012 and 2013, and the second-round pick in 2016. In a hypothetical NBA draft, the New York Knicks are picking 21st overall. They select Lonzo Ball, who has been projected as a top 10 pick in most mock drafts. A trade is made with the Charlotte Bobcats, who are picking 17th overall. The Knicks offer their 2019 1st round pick, as well as the 2019 2nd round pick the Knicks own. The Bobcats also offer their 2021 1st round pick and their 2020 2nd round pick.. Read more about knicks draft rumors 2021 and let us know what you think.

The New York Knicks are entering the upcoming 2021 NBA Draft with high hopes after a remarkable 2020/2021 NBA season in which they surprised many by securing a playoff spot. And it might start with a trade for Collin Sexton of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

For the time being, the Knicks are looking for a point guard in the next draft, free agency, and trade market. Damian Lillard of the Portland Trail Blazers was expected to be the most sought-after free agent this summer, but all indications are that he will remain with the Blazers for at least another season.

Nonetheless, the Knicks should gamble in the next draft by trading their prized first-round choices for Sexton, who would be a great fit for the club for a variety of reasons.

There are a variety of trade options available to the Knicks in order to get Sexton, but this one possible deal might be enough to land the young two-guard.

Collin Sexton’s trade deal with the Knicks

Kevin Knox, Obi Toppin, Jalen Brunson, and Maxi Kleber are among the Cavaliers’ newcomers. In 2021, the Knicks will take the 19th overall selection. The Knicks will have the 32nd overall selection in the NBA Draft in 2021. 2nd round selection of the Mavs in the NBA Draft in 2022

Collin Sexton and Larry Nance Jr. are on their way to the Knicks.

Cedi Osman, Damyean Dotson, Dean Wade, and the 58th overall selection in the 2021 NBA Draft go to the Mavericks.

The Cavaliers are considering selling Sexton ahead of the next season, particularly because the club is unlikely to give him a max contract.

Given that Sexton’s current rookie contract has just one year left on it, the Cavs may not be able to put together a big trade package that includes high lottery choices and a few potential players. Sexton, on the other hand, has plenty of trade value and could land the Cavs a deal that includes Knicks player Kevin Knox and Obi Toppin, as well as their two first-round choices.

The Cavaliers are reported to be considering trading up in the draft to take former Oklahoma State standout Cade Cunningham. If the Cavs decide to take this risk, they may offer the Knicks a trade deal that includes their No. 3 overall selection in the draft and two first-round picks if they move Sexton to them.

More importantly, the Cavs may be seeking to upgrade their forward depth in the near future. They were not going to receive a long-term response from Knox or Toppin on this issue. For the team’s front office, though, this might be a low-risk, high-reward decision.

Knox has struggled offensively for the Knicks this season, while Toppin has struggled to make an instant impression in his debut season with the club. Nonetheless, Cavs head coach J. B. Bickerstaff may have what it takes to maximize the two’s potential, which may include using them in perimeter offensive settings.

Jalen Brunson would be an under-the-radar addition in this hypothetical deal. The Cavs have a fresh need for a backup point guard now that Matthew Dellavedova has left to play in the National Basketball League in Australia. Brunson’s ball-handling skills along with his perimeter quickness would make him a good match for the Cavs.

Sexton would provide Knicks general manager Scott Perry with the team’s long-term solution at point guard. Sexton is a dual-threat guard who can handle a majority of offensive responsibilities over the course of a game, as he demonstrated last season. He has the ability to enhance the Knicks’ offense under head coach Tom Thibodeau, as shown by his seven 30-point games and better passing guard play.

A guy like Larry Nance Jr., on the other hand, might help the Knicks cover the depth chart hole left by forwards Knox and Toppin in this potential trade.

Finally, the Mavs have a clear need for a score-first small forward heading into the next summer. This was apparent during the Mavericks’ Western Conference First Round series against the Los Angeles Clippers, when the club had to depend on guards Luka Doncic and Tim Hardaway Jr. to shoulder the offensive burden game after game.

The Mavs’ front office may find it tough to let go of Jalen Brunson and Maxi Kleber, but potential scorers like Cedi Osman and Damyean Dotson may improve the team’s offense next season. Last season, they both struggled with their shooting under the Cavs’ abysmal offensive scheme. Even yet, they’re both streaky offensive players who can put up double-digit scoring numbers off the bench.

On draft night, the Knicks will have lots of choices for what to do with their first-round selections, but they cannot afford to pass up such a great chance to get one of the NBA’s top scoring guards.
