Mickey Callaway was fired by the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday, for his feud with Mike Trout, in which he called for Trout to be traded. Callaway had been with the Angels for three seasons, and was let go in favor of the Angels having one more full season of Mike Trout at the plate.
The Los Angeles Angels fired general manager Billy Eppler on Tuesday, and he remains at his post for the time being. Owner Arte Moreno fired him and named baseball executive Billy Eppler the Angels general manager. The team did not immediately announce a replacement for Eppler.

In a statement released Wednesday, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred wrote that the investigation found that Calloway violated MLB policy and was rightfully placed on the ineligible list.
The Los Angeles Angels issued another statement announcing Calloway’s resignation as pitching coach: We appreciate Major League Baseball’s thorough investigation and support its decision.
The league announced the immediate suspension. Callaway can apply for reinstatement at the end of the 2022 season.
Callaway gave the following statement to ESPN through a spokesperson:
My family and I fully support the MLB’s strong stance against harassment and discrimination and are grateful to the Commissioner and his office for conducting a thorough investigation. I apologize to the women who reported interactions with detectives that made them feel uncomfortable. Let’s get one thing straight: I never wanted anyone to feel that way, and I didn’t realize that these interactions could lead to or violate MLB policy. But these are my own blind spots, and I take responsibility for their consequences.
In my 25-year career in professional baseball, I have never taken for granted the privilege of playing even a small part of this great game. To say I regret my past bad decisions would be an understatement. I still hope to return to baseball if I can play at the end of next season, but for now I plan to work on my shortcomings and repair the damage I have done to my teammates and especially my family.
Five women, all of whom work in sports media and spoke to The Athletic on condition of anonymity, accused Callaway of inappropriate behavior, including sending them topless photos, demanding nude photos and, in one case, stalking a reporter’s face when she tried to get an interview. That job lasted five years and he worked for three organizations, including pitching coach for the Cleveland Indians and manager of the New York Mets.
In an effort to understand and learn from this experience, the commissioner’s office has made promising recommendations based on what it has learned from Mickey Calloway’s time with our organization, Indians owner Paul Dolan said in a statement. While we have not received the details of the report or individual cases or stories, there were no findings against the Cleveland Indians in Callaway’s case.
Mr. Dolan stated that the information provided by the Commissioner’s office confirms our own conclusion that we have not done enough as an organization to create a climate where people feel comfortable reporting inappropriate behavior that they have encountered or observed. We hired an outside expert with extensive experience in workplace culture and relationships to strengthen the organization.
The Mets stand by their earlier comments about Calloway, spokesman Harold Kaufman said.
The Angels, who hired Calloway as pitching coach after the 2019 season, suspended Calloway in February, and the MLB investigation continued for the next three-plus months. Callaway, a source told ESPN, initially denied any wrongdoing.
In a statement, Manfred said each of Callaway’s three teams has fully cooperated with the Department of Investigation, including providing internal emails and helping to identify witnesses.
Harassment has no place in Major League Baseball, Manfred said in a statement, and we are committed to providing a good working environment for everyone involved in our sport.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.
