mollyfamwatThe Duke Blue Devils basketball team has added another player to its 2012 recruiting class as Jaden Schutt, a 6-foot-7, 205-pound small forward from Atlanta, Georgia, has signed a National Letter of Intent with the program. Schutt, who will graduate from Lee County High School this summer, joins a recruiting class that now consists of Harrison Barnes, Seth Curry and Ryan Kelly.
The Duke Blue Devils added a local, 4-star guard to their 2019 recruiting class Sunday when they landed a commitment from Jaden Schutt. Schutt, a 6-foot-4 point guard from Alpharetta (Ga.) South Point, is the No. 47 overall recruit in the ESPN 100.
Another year is in the books, and now it’s time to look ahead to the 2017 recruiting cycle. With that in mind, read on as we take a look at Duke’s signing class for this year. Jaden Schutt, a top-50 guard, has committed to Duke, bolstering the Blue Devils’ top-ranked 2022 recruiting class.
Schutt paid a visit to Durham over the weekend and made his choice quickly.
“It was simply the coaching staff’s connection with me; they never really put any pressure on me,” Schutt told ESPN. “I simply felt like I could speak to them about anything, and I really liked it. I didn’t get the impression that I was being solicited. They made me feel important, and it was all real. I just trust in coach [Jon] Scheyer, and the vision he has for me is same to mine.”
Given their heights and shooting skill, Schutt, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard, has been likened to Scheyer. They’re both from Illinois, too.

He said, “It was a big factor.” “We have a lot of things in common. He’s the primary person with whom I’ve been speaking on the phone. He’s been very helpful in addressing any queries I’ve had for him. We speak about topics other than basketball, which is really important. It’s a wonderful connection, and I felt at ease.”
Duke made an offer to Schutt in July and worked quickly to secure his commitment. The Blue Devils had him ranked first on their shooting guard recruiting board, and his visit to campus last weekend cemented his commitment.
“It was fantastic. It was a lot of fun. It was a huge hit with my family “According to Schutt. “It very much ticked all the boxes, from nutrition to strength to performance to on-court things. Speaking with the coaches, seeing everything, and learning about the history. I just liked meeting and playing with the guys, and I thought I was a good match. Playing open gym with the guys, they were extremely friendly. It simply had a distinct vibe. The players and coaches have all reached out to express how much they want me and other such things. It was just unique.”
With his Illinois Wolves squad winning the Under Armour Association title, Schutt was one of the greatest stock increases throughout the July live periods. With six 3-pointers and 21 points in the final game, he established himself as one of the top 3-point shooters in the 2022 class. Schutt has a decent size for his position and understands how to move without the ball.
“I’ve always thought of myself as someone who improves month by month,” he added. “I felt like I was playing OK basketball, but not my best. I have a lot of things to prove. Duke has said that they do not place individuals in roles; rather, they let them to go out and play basketball. They demonstrated how they utilize their guards, and I caught a glimpse of coach Scheyer in one of the films. They allow their shooters to be self-assured and play freely. That’s something I find appealing.”
With five-star recruits Dariq Whitehead and Kyle Filipowski already on board, Duke boasts the top-ranked recruiting class in 2022. Whitehead is the class’s No. 1 small forward (No. 5 overall), while Filipowski is the class’s No. 1 power forward (No. 10 overall). In 2022, Schutt is rated No. 47.
With players like Dereck Lively, J.J. Starling, and Mark Mitchell remaining on the roster in 2022, the Blue Devils aren’t done yet.
“It’s a privilege to be a member of such an outstanding class,” Schutt remarked. “That’s why you come to Duke: to win championships, to play with and against the greatest players in the world.”
