COVID-19 restrictions have resulted in high school football seasons being shortened or even canceled. This comparison was an invaluable opportunity for our team to evaluate this perspective.
Whether it’s a promising player who has confirmed his elite shooting ability, a promising player who has yet to be evaluated, or a young player whose prospects have caught our eye, here’s a list of five prospects who stood out above the rest.
2022 WR Armani Winfield
Lewisville High School (Texas)
March 2021 Camp: Dallas
ESPN 300 Rating: No. 123
Winfield answered all questions about his pass catching abilities. He’s currently 13th in the 2022 rankings, and we’re comparing his skills to those of every other catcher we’ve seen this spring. In short, he doesn’t have many misses and was named MVP at the Under Armour camp in Dallas.

His refined skills combined with a lightning fast 4.59 time in the Laser 40 make him an absolute threat to catch anything. Winfield, who weighs 5-foot-9 and 90 pounds, also ran a 4.4 shuttle run after growing two inches over the past two seasons. He caught the ball and quickly disengaged from it as well.
Texas’ verbal commitment is another piece of the puzzle for Steve Sarkisian’s plan in Austin.
2022 OLB/DE Anto Saka
Loyola Blakefield High School (Maryland)
May 2021 Camp: Baltimore
Class of 2022 Assessment: Three stars.
After a limited junior season, Saka still had some questions to answer. Was he fast and agile enough to make an impact on the college game in the midfield? Did he have enough jump power to leap at the passerby? Well, he answered them.
Saka gave a show in Baltimore, first with his test and then with the game. He weighed 230 pounds and ran the 40-meter dash in 4.62 seconds. He displayed his explosive lower body strength with a long jump of more than three meters. He was fast and agile in the shelter and space drills, and then used his speed and strength to defeat attacking defenders in a one-on-one segment.

Saka is currently listed as a three-star outside of our ESPN 300 rankings, but since he can play with his hands both on and off the floor, he will be featured in our next rankings update. Visits to Penn State, Northwestern, Michigan and UCLA are planned.
2023 QB-DT Dante Moore

April 2021 Camp: Ohio
Moore’s proven stats are more than equal to his impressive passing skills, including lightning fast releases. He’s grown an inch and gained 20 pounds since last year, is now 6-2, 195 pounds, and already has big 9.8-inch hands.
Every time we see Moore, he becomes more physically impressive and performs at a very high level. At Under Armour Ohio, he threw with pace and accuracy and was agile in agility drills. Moore should continue to develop physically and become one of the most sought-after players in college camp in June, when the offseason ends.
Yes, Quinn Evers and Arch Manning are great quarterback names right now, but don’t overlook Moore, who we listed as the 11th pick earlier this month regardless of class. The young signal-caller already has more than 20 offers, including from Michigan and Notre Dame.
2023 ATH/CB Cormani McClain
Lake Gibson High School (Florida)
April 2021 Camp: Orlando
McClain confirmed what we saw on tape and will be one of the most mentioned candidates in our first ESPN Jr. 300, which will be released this summer. He is incredibly talented and for a sophomore, he performed admirably at the Elite Underclassmen Camp in Orlando last April.
He’s 6-2, moves smoothly and fluidly, and is a natural playmaker. Although laser-to-laser times can be relentlessly precise in Combine conditions, he impressed with a time of 4.58 in the 40-meter dash and a time of 4.39 on the shuttle.
He was very good in one-on-one drills and jump ball possession. His length is a big advantage because his wingspan allows him to cover a lot of space and cover long, physical receivers.
McClain has already received offers from numerous elite college programs, including Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Miami.

Bishop Gorman has released several FBS players, including three prospects in the 2022 class. Another name that has surfaced is Rhett, who Gilman’s staff says is a composite of two former Gaels defenders: Bubba Bolden of Miami and Q Blue Kelly of Stanford.
The two times we’ve seen the 2023 defender this spring, he’s made his presence felt. In addition to an excellent combination of size (6-1, 190 pounds) and length (71-inch wingspan), it showed impressive performance during testing. He showed excellent body control with a width jump of 12 cm and a change of direction with a quick short shuttle of 4.11 and an L-drill of 6.83.
It had an impact on his game, as he showed quick feet and the ability to finish the ball. Rhett, one of the best players in camp, has already received several offers from the Power 5 this year, and when the recruiting period ends next week, that list is sure to grow.
